Look. If you have read any of my previous posts, you’ll realize that it is very rare for me to take offence, much less, actually resort to swearing. So, you need to realize that it would take something extremely mean-spirited, something so vile so as to make the phrase “douche bag” sound rosy, for me to bring out the ‘C‘ word.
But. Sergio Busquets. Is. A. Cheat.
Did I mention that he is also a world-class Cunt?
I understand that simulation has become, for better or for worse, a big part of the modern game. We all know of a couple of players, from teams we very well support, that indulge in a little hancky-pancky from time to time. But there is a fine line somewhere that Sergio Busquets successfully nose-dived across.
And as much as I respect the ideals that Barcelona stand for as a footballing club, and who can honestly say they don’t enjoy watching Barcelona in full flow, such an act on the pitch takes away more from them than it would from any other team. Because, it makes them, and I feel very strongly about this, hypocrites.
My gripes with Busquets are many fold. Firstly, what he did in itself is despicable. Worse, it will take the headlines away from Lucio, Walter Samuel, Cambiasso, Eto’o and everyone else in a white shirt who played their hearts out. Headlines that Mourinho and Inter deserve, and then some. But what is probably unforgivable is that he single-handedly turned what promised to be a breath-taking European night into a game of attack versus defence, and a boring one at that.
As much as I would like to think it, Sergio Busquets is not the only one to blame. The referees need to get better. I firmly believe that there is no place for technology assisted refereeing in football, if only for the simple fear that the clock may one day become stoppable. But to expect competency is not too much, is it?
As Bojan’s goal was disallowed, I hope Busquets learnt an important lesson, if not to become a better footballer and sportsman, then at least to not sully the Catalan dream of Més que un club , of footballing perfection.
That, Karma, is a bitch.

erm, ME.
I dont like watching Barca in full flow. Not since 6th April, 2010
Why da, Sample? What happened April 6th 2010?
I remember the day only vaguely. I was watching Schindler’s List till about 12. 12:15 and then it’s all fuzzy.
The day I realized UCL doesn’t mix well with some stuff.
Inter won with 10 men, da. The headlines are going to be about Lucio and Co only. You yourself are inadvertently giving him the spotlight. And Btw this is supposedly the 6th straight time that Messi has failed to score against a Mourinho team
Ha Ha
You know what I mean. It’s an unnecessary talking point. There will be some amount of space, including this, devoted to the controversy which is strictly not needed.
losers . . .
All that is fine, but I disagree with you when you say he single handedly turned the game into attack versus defence. I always thought that by the 2nd half (if Barca were still chasing the game), the match would be played in Inter’s half only.
And Btw football regulations state that if a hand comes out and hits someone
1. Below the chin, is a yellow.
2. Above the chin on the face, is a red.
So I don’t see a lot wrong in the referee giving him a 2nd yellow. It’s probably the same thing as Rafael getting a red card at Old Trafford.
I am sure we would have something better than a 548-67 pass completion ratio.
Rules are all fine and dandy, but what Motta did happens all the time. People leave an arm out to shield themselves. It’s up to the referee to interpret the rules.
To compare that to Rafael’s red is an injustice to Ribery. As I said, people play for fouls all the time. But there is a fine line, strike that, a gulf, between going down easily and out-right cheating.
@Sanjay
The problem was that the hand did not exactly “hit ” the face. Force of contact has to be taken into account. It was barely a foul.
No way is it comparable to Rafael’s red.
@Sanjay – I guess more than the question of the foul being given or not, it was the playacting that was despicable … reminded of the Rivaldo, 2002 World Cup. Hope a player of the quality of Busquets does not go the Cristiano Ronaldo way.
