Right, I’ve been ever so irresponsible the past week disappearing like this. All the emotional highs and lows of the season which saw my (and all other gooners’ basically) mental makeup oscillate between immense euphoria and utter devastation finally caught up with me. I really needed that breather. What better time to take it than immediately after a sucker-punch-in-the-nut-sack of a draw with Birmingham. The more regular amongst you readers might’ve wondered where our say on the entire issue was. Well, Felipe wrote a HUGE rant and then realized he probably was having a nervous breakdown himself and hit the delete button. No wait. That wasn’t it. Post Match Heat of the Game he called it.
So, this is it; the big game. The game which had all the atheist purists run to their place of worship thanking God as soon as it was announced. Grudge Match. I’ve heard so many talk about how this is an incredible game for the ‘Neutrals’. Someone explain to me who exactly a neutral is in football. I don’t think there exists such a concept quite simply. You always end up taking sides if you ask me. So from what I figure most of England will be rooting for Barcelona and most of Spain and certainly all of Madrid for Arsenal. Imagine the ignominy of seeing Barcelona lift the Champions League in the Bernebeu. If that were to happen, surely they’d fire their manager. Oh wait.
There is no point in my trying to predict the line up or the tactics. Too much has been said about which the better side is Mano e Mano. All permutations and combinations have been discussed; with Cesc, without Cesc, with Diaby, without Diaby, with Henry playing for us, without him playing for either side, Xavi in, Iniesta out, Pedro in, Busquets out blah blah. All I know is whoever Barca put in front of us, they’re going to be real quality (except Abidal). The 11 men who’re going to be the custodians of the ambitions and dreams of millions of fans need to bring 110% to the grove. If they do and even then we get knocked out, I will have no shame in admitting we lost out to the best footballing side in the world.
Like the Boss said, we have real quality ourselves. for all you know they could well call our boys Zlatan Bendtner, Andreas Fabregas, Yaya Song, Xavi Diaby, Thierry Arshavin, Dani Sagna and Carlos Vermaelen. Hell we even have our own Lionel Eboue. It is going to be a spectacle; that much is certain. The fans have been urged to wear Red and rock the grove out a la ‘that’ United game. Hopefully, the atmosphere will continue well past a grand total of 11 minutes this time around.
What we need to do is simple. Stop them from scoring and score ourselves. If ever we needed a clean sheet, we need it now.
Sneak feeling time: I think we could do it really.
