Liverpool have lost 4 games in a row. In one of those matches they lost because the ball got deflected off a beach ball. That’s funny. Because the Ref who allowed the goal to stay is now officiating in the Championship. Never had we seen such a goal and never will we ever see it again. Sadly however, this could be the ball that could end Rafa Benitez’s career as a Liverpool manager and spell doom for us.
It’s a damn shame right now. I don’t get it why the players have gone suddenly AWOL. I can understand that when we are losing we deserve criticism. There’s got to be a collective responsibility in it, but in football the manager has to own up, no matter whatever kind of shit he has to go through. However I would also like to point out that despite owning the ultimate responsibility Rafa was just undone by some unjust bewitchery and black magic cast on the team.
Sometimes the International Break seems to suggest that the players are out to play some of their most important matches of their career. Its ok if he was an Argentine as in the case of Mascherano. But take Torres and Gerrard. What are they playing for in the first case. Rafa phoned Del Bosque and Capello and asked the managers personally to sit out the duo, having had an Injury scare. And What does Del Bosque say? He says he’ll take care of Torres just like in Liverpool. And then the result is we have a crocked Torres. Seriously what more can a manager do? I have always defended and maintained that Liverpool aren’t a two-man team. But with Aquilani yet to return, Mascherano arriving late, Riera being injured we are not missing 2 but 5 players.
Rafa’s Mistakes
Right now I am going through a massive ordeal every time I visit a footie page or watch a Liverpool match listening to smucks calling everything that Rafa does is a mistake. We have had a good team, but to lose 4 matches is not right, agreed. Benayoun and Kuyt are simply mediocre at the moment. They seem to lack the inspiration that they used to get from Alonso in the middle. Which leads to the question : Is selling Alonso Rafa’s mistake?
Last night Carlton “****head” Palmer was at it again. That Rafa tried to offload Alonso and he got the better of Rafa next year. I had watched every season of Alonso’s at Liverpool and last season was the best. But at the same time I do remember the season before was his worst. Many a times I had to endure his useless Hollywood long balls that simply flies past the winger, who vainly gives a thumbs up and turns away. Rafa tried to sell him. But not for nothing. And it was this act that made Alonso more desperate to become the player that he is today. Doesn’t it speak more that there were no takers for him for 16m the year before and just one year made teams ready to splash out double the amount.
For the moment he is gone. The only Alonso I care of will drive for Ferrari next year. End of it.
Is the formation wrong?
Against Fiorentina, Aurelio played in midfield. And the wankfest started straight away. Now am not saying Aurelio is the greatest of midfield players, but without Mascherano he is not a bad option defensively. In fact he played well there but it was the others around him who sucked. Torres missed some chances, but no one touches him. Against Sunderland Spearing played in midfield. That’s a bad move but what other options does Rafa have? Zilch. Rafa played him because he had to, not because he wanted to.
Honestly the only mistake Rafa did was buying Aquilani. Lucas is simply not good enough to inspire others. And that Aquilani yet to kick a football has become Rafa’s greatest undoing. We could have bought a Sneijder or Van Der Vaart and played much better and finish fourth without much flak.
These are trying times and as I said there’s more scorcery around. With the kind of luck we have now I won’t be surprised If Michael Owen scores a Hat-trick this weekend. Sigh. I feel so sorry for Rafa now. He did everything to build a great team last year, came so close and then had to buy players from selling to put a title bid this year. Infact there’s so much truth that lies buried about this year’s signings that people don’t know. Aquilani was bought in EMI that cost us about only 5m this year. Glen Johnson was bought from the money Portsmouth owed us for Crouch. We spent about 15m this year against 40m earned from selling. And George Gillet says its all Rafa’s fault. What a faggot.
All I can say now is at the moment it’s not the end of the world. We can still Qualify in CL. We did it in 2005. We did it in 2007. Every time we did it we went to the finals. Thats the kind of massive lift one gets when coming back from hopeless situations. The night is darkest just before the dawn. Remember? We’ve got Man United coming and it shall be fantastic if we can start our resurgence against them. We just have to walk on with hope in our hearts.

Stop blaming outside factors and injuries for Rafa’s obvious faults u scousers. I mean, 5 yrs he had, built his own team, and what does he have to show for it? A freak CL win, and an FA cup won on penalties.
And lets not even talk of his transfer dealings shall we. Buying, and then selling Crouch, Keane, Bellamy and ending up with Ngog and Voronin as his backup strikers.
Buying Babel for 13m and letting him rot on the bench.
Selling Alonso, and then buying a crocked 20m player and a mediocre defender for 18m when clearly he needed a 2nd striker and a midfielder who can play 50 games a season. To top it, he doesn’t sign Owen even on a free !!
Like you said Alonso played one of his best seasons. Liverpool need to get their heads straight, because right now without alonso, they seem to be all over the place. Aquilani will need to get back soon, and the back 4 need to improve, badly !!
Ooh aah Cantona
Ooh Aah Cantona
Just a few flaws in ur arguments..
For 2 out of ur 4 defeats u had virtually a fully fit squad
Against sunderland u effectively had only 3 players out (including aquilani) because Masch and riera were both on the bench (arsenal had around 7 out before birmingham and 8 when walcott went down after around 30 mins)
Don’t blame international managers for the injuries..it happens with
everyone…i dont know how many times theo walcott & RVP have been injured on Intl duty…arshavin being played by hiddink despite his injury cause of which he was absent for the City game…Essien out for months because of an injury suffered while playing for Ghana..Rooney also was injured on Intl duty might I add…
Now when u say wat other options Rafa had..who’s fault is it..isnt the manager’s job to build a squad…Arsenal’s entire first team probably costs as much as Torres + Masch + Babel (maybe lesser)…so dont tell me squads cant be built with less money…and Rafa chose to spend all his money on a few big names rather than building a squad..simply because Rafa is incapable of developing talented players…that is his biggest incapability and his mistake..im not as critical of Rafa as others..but I wont let him off as easily by saying ‘Buying aquilani was his only mistake’
I have always defended and maintained that Liverpool aren’t a two-man team
Thats a stupid remark da… How can you say that Liverpool aren’t a two man team? Lets talk tactics here for a moment.
Rafa’s best team is when Torres & divie me are playing with the formation of 4-1-3-1-1 or 4-4-1-1 with Torres feeding off Divie Me.. In fact Torres does such a good job at this position that this has become your constant formation…. The problem is, No one else apart from Torres can play that role to perfection. There are very few strikes in the world that can play there and Torres is one of them. If he is crocked, he cannot be replaced by babel or Voronin.. they are simply not good enough to play that role.. So rafa has to change the formation of the whole team. When you do this, you need world class players that can adapt and deliver. But sadly, you don’t have that luxtury. We all saw what happened when he tried to change the formation against Sunderland.
So tell me, how can you say that Liverpool are not a two man team
@Venky : Told u many times before. When theres no Gerrard and Torres, its not Babel and Voronin who play upfront. Its Kuyt and Yossi. I think the best example i can give you to settle this is the 4-4 draw at the bridge. Gerrard didn’t play. Torres played and yet he didnt score a goal. last year against united at anfield was another case. listen atleast give some credit to the defenders and the keeper man. and whats with that “ooh ahh” thing. u r orgasmic or wat?
@harish and Keyur :
I think every team has some sort of over-reliance on certain players. Take Arshavin and Fabregas out or Drogba and Lampard or Rooney plus some other guy. The worst part is Liverpool lost both their best players together and that came when against some better teams.
And theres no need to talk about past signings. Our team was good last year. We have almost the same squad. Am just considering watever happened this season that contributed to the loss..
You had Alonso last year and he had a formidable partnership with Mascherano… This season Mascha has been awful- partly coz of his sulking and partly coz he is angered every time he sees Lucas and thinks “Is this what i’ve been reduced to? Playing alongside this imbecile”…
As for United’s match at Anfield, don’t forget that Gerrard was on the pitch when Babel scored the winner… in the 4-4 at the bridge, Torres did play…. Thats what counts.. His very presence distracts the defence and he doesn’t have to score a goal… Football has more to it than just scoring goals and you should know that by now…
The point that i was making was not that you didn’t have any other good players.. But it was rather that no other player in your squard has the ability to play in your 4-4-1-1 the same way that Gerrard and Torres can do… And if you lose them both and have to change your formation, you are very ineffective and mediocre… That is Rafa’s fault alone…
@arvi
All teams rely on certain players more than others…but u guys are more dependent on ur 2 stars than anyone else…Last year Arsenal went on a 17 match unbeaten run for which they were without Cesc and Adeba-whore, Arshavin wasn’t around for the most part, not to mention the absence of Eduardo, Rosicky during the same period…we dropped around 10 points in 17 games without these chaps..u have dropped 12 in 4…and we beat chelsea at the bridge without cesc & ade….and this year we have so far been pretty decent without samir nasri..who might i say could do as well as cesc in the current system..we have ppl stepping up when it matters rvp last season & this, song this year, ade the year before last, all these happen because of the squad wenger built …all of ur fringe players can only step up in the big games..like chelsea and united..but when required to perform on a consistent basis without the big 2..they’re no good
And the point is u have the same squad as last year…and most of those guys had the season of their lives…Alonso did, so did kuyt, unlike Arsenal who had the likes of rosicky and eduardo coming back, or chelsea who missed essien and joe cole for the most part of last season..u guys have no significant non-purchase additions returning to the squad…ur squad looked strong in part because arsenal and chelsea were so ravaged by injuries last year
And the title of your post was who’s at fault for liverpool’s poor run and form this year…well i was just pointing that the majority of the fault should lay with rafa’s failure to build a strong squad…simple
well both of u have some sort of opinion which obviously differs from mine. maybe when aquilani comes and Kuyt and Benny pick form things will change and that including ur opinions. probably tomo
