A dictionary of business defines the word “Recession” as a slowdown in the rate of growth of GNP. It is generally characterized by falling levels of Investment, Rising unemployment and sometimes falling prices.
What a misleading description I say. You read the above description and then try relating it to Real Madrid’s latest acquisitions the only plausible conclusion would be that Recession doesn’t apply to Football….no wait Real Madrid CF. Seriously, analyze the description from the second line onwards. You will get where I want you to be.
Not very long ago we saw a certain Robinho moving out of the Bernebeu to the premier league. I thought, may be the decades long Madrid- Temptation that players suffered from is finally over. Madrid , I thought, has become a not so attractive destination when compared with the big four clubs of the premier league. But time has only two duties.
- Run without waiting for men or women.
- Prove men or women wrong.
It has performed its duties with admirable perfection. Prior to the two acquisitions Madrid’s attacking options included Raul, Robben, van Nistelrroy, Higuain, Sneijder, van der vaart, Saviola, Guti, Huntelaar etc. Their central defensive options are Pepe, Metzelder, Garay. There is clearly a need for a galactico in the defense. But they have opted to bolster their attacks by acquiring two of the biggest name in world football. I once read about the friendly banters inside the united dressing room, one of them pinpointed towards Ronaldo was.
“Ronaldo!, don’t go to Madrid . They’ ll make you play centre-half there.”
It could very well be a possibility now.
As the great man George.W.Bush once said “Past is Past”. Putting the past behind , we now come to the question of how will the selling club from Manchester-who are now 80 million pounds richer- react ? The Lehman Brothers Mantra of “ Buy! Buy! They have a new manger in Leonardo who is inexperienced. They are behind Adebayor. So seriously cant say which way they are headed. An addendum to the post: i seriously think Madrid are gonna play Ronaldo at Centre-half by the looks of things. I infer so because Christoph Metzelder is more distraught than any other person in the world. RM have no defenders ! Inspite of all the money they spend on the attackers, the fact is Pepe is out for the first few games and the defenders arent up to the task. They need a solid Centre Back and a Good left back !!!
